Short-Tailed Weasel, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The short-tailed weasel (Mustela erminea), also known as an ermine, turns white in winter to blend in with the surrounding snow; in summer its coat turns brown to match the landscape. Ermines are found in the United States, Canada, and Asia. Ermines are carnivores, hunting for rabbits (which are bigger than an ermine), rodents, and insects. This ermine cautiously darted from hole to hole, occasionally peeking up to examine his surroundings.
