Sea Otter with Mussels, Elkhorn Slough, California
Typically sea otters will place a rock on their stomach, which they use to break open their food. This particular sea otter is unique because she prefers to use large rocks on the side of the Slough to break open her food, rather than a small rock placed on her stomach. She would repeatedly dive down into the water, find something to eat, such as a large clam or abalone, and then bang it against this large rock.
