Southern Sea Otter, Elkhorn Slough, California
A southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris) rests in the Elkhorn Slough. Sea otters are currently listed as threatened on the Endangered Species List, and there are now approximately 2,800 sea otters off the coast of California. Sea otters are only found off the coasts of California, Alaska, and Asia. This photograph was taken from a kayak at sunset.
