Ring-Necked Pheasant, Baylands Nature Preserve, California
Ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) prefer to be on the ground, but fly when startled or alarmed.
Ring-necked pheasants forage on the ground for grains, berries, insects, and seeds.
Males have brightly colored red-faces and a white ring around the neck, while females are brown.
